Climate Change Impacts on Surface Runoff and Nutrient and Sediment Losses in Buchanan County, Iowa

چکیده
Nonpoint source pollution from cultivated croplands has often been associated with downstream water quality impairment in various watersheds. Given projected changes global climate patterns, this study contributes to the existing literature by elucidating impacts of projections on edge-of-field surface runoff and sediment nutrient losses. We apply a well-tested ecohydrological model, Agricultural Policy Environmental eXtender (APEX), continuous corn corn–soybean fields Buchanan County, Iowa, using scenarios developed three well-known representative concentration pathway (RCP) projections: RCP 2.6, 4.5, 8.5. Our results indicate that there will be moderate substantial increase runoff, sediment, losses depending upon reference point comparison (baseline scenario) which scenario actually materializes. However, regardless materializes baseline for comparison, soluble nitrogen are bound increase, magnitude scenario. find also higher than fields, given tillage practices implemented versus soybeans area. Similarly, we may receive manure only inorganic fertilizer, though latter finding predicated specific application rates utilized.

Animal Waste Bmp Impacts on Sediment and Nutrient Losses in Runoff from the Owl Run Watershed
The results of the 10-year study conducted in the Owl Run watershed clearly indicate the beneficial impacts of the best management practices (BMPs) on the surface water quality. The main objective of the study was to determine the effectiveness of a system of animal waste BMPs for improving surface water quality. Precipitation, streamflow, total suspended solids, nitrogen (N), and phosphorus (P...

the discharge of total suspended sediments (tss) and dissolved nutrients from watersheds into receiving waters is a serious problem when natural vegetation is degraded by agriculture or overgrazing. this study was conducted in soolegan watershed to investigate land use change and overgrazing effects on phosphorus loss (dissolved & particulate), particle size associated loss of p and effect of t...

Climate has always been changing during the lifetime of the earth, and has appeared in the form of the ice age, hurricanes, severe and sudden temperature changes, precipitation and other climatic elements, and has dramatically influenced the environment, and in some cases has caused severe changes and even destructions. Some of the most important aspects of climate changes can be found in preci...

متن کاملClimate Change and Maize Yield in Iowa
Climate is changing across the world, including the major maize-growing state of Iowa in the USA. To maintain crop yields, farmers will need a suite of adaptation strategies, and choice of strategy will depend on how the local to regional climate is expected to change. Here we predict how maize yield might change through the 21st century as compared with late 20th century yields across Iowa, US...
